Project Details

The Chuquicamata Underground project involves mining resources under the current open-pit mine, which is due to be exhausted at the end of the next decade, by shifting from open pit to underground mining methods. The construction phase will generate 6,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect positions. For ore extraction will be done through the block caving method with macro blocks. The mine will have four production levels, a 7.5km main access tunnel and tunnels totaling 180km, five air injection tunnels and two air extraction tunnels.
