Chile ATM operator thwarts potential attack

Chilean ATM network operator Redbanc received an alert of a potential cyberattack in December but said that operations were unaffected.

In a statement released this week, the company said that it had immediately activated security protocols to isolate the problem.

"As it is public knowledge, all companies and industries are susceptible to this type of attack. What is important is to be prepared with mechanisms to detect and security protocols to respond to these attacks," the company said.

In June last year, the finance ministry announced measures to help beef up cybersecurity, following the theft of US$10mn by hackers from bank Banco de Chile in May.
