Using e-Health Strategies to Address Efficiency Ills

In countries like Chile it has become standard in recent years for doctors to enter patient diagnoses and prescriptions directly into their PCs, meaning the days of illegible prescriptions are over as these are now printed clearly and in a standardized format.

Doctors are also able to rapidly consult patient history at their clinic and are even in the habit of answering patients' queries by email or Whatsapp. And pharmacies know immediately whether a prescription is covered by health insurance.

However, technology vendors assert that the industry is barely scratching the surface of the possibilities for improving efficiency through ICT.

In this report, BNamericas takes stock of Latin American nations' e-health strategies and consults sector vendors about the steps these governments should be taking.
