Description

The Superintendence for the Environment (SMA), is a decentralized public Chilean agency, under the supervision of the President of the Republic via the Ministry of Environment. The SMA runs, organizes and coordinates the monitoring and control of all environmental issues established by the law, including Environmental Qualification Resolutions, Prevention Plan and Environmental Decontamination measures, the composition of Environmental Quality Standards and Emission Standards, as well as Management Plans where appropriate. The agency was created by law in 2010, and became fully functional on 28 December 2012.
