China's state Sinohydro Corporation (Sinohydro) was established in the 1950s as a hydropower projects contractor and has grown to have a business portafolio that covers three major divisions: construction of infrastructure in the energy, water, transport and buildings sectors; investment in real estate, concessions and mining; and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts. The firm finances, designs, implements and operates numerous projects in over 70 countries around the world. Beijing-based Sinohydro is one of the key brands of The Power Construction Corporation of China (Powerchina). In the Americas region, Sinohydro's regional office is located in Caracas, Venezuela. Its regional projects include the Cabrera thermal power plant and Palito thermal power plant, both in Venezuela; the Chalillo dam in Belize; the Coca Codo-Sinclair hydropower plant in Ecuador (inaugurated in November 2016); among other projects in Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia and Costa Rica.
