Royal Dutch Shell plc is an Anglo-Dutch oil and chemical group engaged in the exploration, production, transportation, refining, distribution and marketing of crude oil, gas, and petroleum products. It is also active in solar and electric power, and biofuels and petrochemicals. Its products include natural gas, LPG, gasoline, paraffin, diesel, additives, lubricants, jet fuel, asphalt, and ethanol. Shell owns 25 refineries, and has exploration and production assets in 37 countries worldwide, including Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela. It produces 3.2Mboe/d, accounting for 2% and 3% of world oil and gas production, respectively. The company is currently focusing on deepwater drilling in Brazil and global LNG expansion, following the acquisition of Britain's BG Group for US$70bn in 2015. Among key production assets acquired by Shell are deepwater fields off Brazil and LNG projects in Australia. BG's Brazil portfolio includes stakes in five pre-salt discoveries in the Santos basin and operating rights for 10 blocks in the Barreirinhas basin.
